Remember how difficult it was to be 13? Everybody was always on your case trying to get you to do things you really didn't want to do.
Taking out the trash was a simple and easy enough chore that I was assigned. But oh, how I loved to "forget" to do it.
I wasn't much for raking leaves, pulling weeds, or my least favorite job - cleaning up after the pets.
I was constantly on the lookout for ways to avoid the daily tasks that needed to be done around the house.
In a sense, you would be well advised to adopt this same attitude and mentality when it comes to searching for ways to avoid most of your daily operational chores that need to be done in your business.
Now, don't get me wrong - you can't afford to just ignore tasks. Each one needs to be completed.
What I'm suggesting is that you look for ways to take those chores off your plate. Typically, that's done in business by hiring employees to perform the routine chores - those tasks that don't require the knowledge or skill of the business owner.
But in the Lone Wolf business model, the answer is not more employees; but it is a practice called out-sourcing. Find companies or independent contractors that will accomplish those tasks for you.
Yes, you'll have to pay for this privilege of "clearing your plate," so to speak.
But in many cases, the expense will be money well spent compared to the alternative of taking the owner's valuable time away from the higher priorities that she has got to complete in her working day.
Out-sourcing the tasks of a digital information business is easy over the Internet. There are lots of waiting and eager companies and freelancers that you can hire very quickly.
You will learn over time, and by speaking with others, which services are dependable, put out a high quality product, and get the job done on time.
Out-sourcing is a form of business leverage for the owner. I suppose you could say it's the ultimate form of leverage because you take yourself totally out of the picture for specific tasks.
Every business is different. Every solo owner is different. The out-sourcing needs and opportunities for any given business will be unique to the company depending upon factors like the budget for such things, the complexity of the tasks, and the skill of the owner in recognizing the cost of completing the task in-house vs. out-sourced.
Be like the 13 year old and aggressively look for opportunities to get others to do your chores (workload) where it makes financial and practical sense.
