I think you're going to see more and more of this kind of networking activity in the real near future and I believe it will elevate the blogging "scene" to greater heights and a more universal appeal among small business owners and their customers.
It was only a matter of time until the blogging "craze" took on a full life of its own with conferences, workshops, courses, awards, and who knows what else.
I wouldn't be surprised to soon see college level courses in blogging and full time corporate positions (like V.P. of Corporate Blogging?) that focus on spreading the company story and engaging company customers with a more human interaction (blogging vs. boring telephone numbers listed for corporate "suggestion boxes.")
The event I'm speaking of is the Utah Bloggers conference. Here are the details: Tuesday, June 13, 6:30 - 9:00 pm., Larry Miller Center for Entrepreneurship, 9750 S. 300 W., Sandy, Utah. This is a bogger's networking session with free admission, food, and blogging advice.
Included will be a question and answer session with a panel of prominent Utah bloggers (7:00 - 7:45 pm.) For more information visit HERE.
This happens to be a geographic-based group (bloggers in Utah) but I'm sure the lines will be drawn and positioned by many different criteria as time goes on. I envision "clusters of bloggers" feeding off each other and setting up networks that are interlinked and tied functionally (by subject), by similar opinions, and by niche.
Much of this networking will be driven by customers that like to sample many different personal opinions, weigh alternative suggestions, and "survey" the field among recognized blog "authorities" on various niche topics.
Of course the blogging technology will advance as well - even to the point that the traditional blog may become a relic of the past as new hardware and software make interacting online progressively easier, more user-friendly, and fast.
But whatever it's called, blogging (engaging customers and propects in dialogue and interaction online) will be around for some time as evidenced by its continued growth and popularity over the past few years.
So what does all this have to do with Lone Wolf business owners? It points to the fact that you really need to have a blog for your business. It's a great opportunity to talk with and interact with the people who pay your bills and the prospects you hope to lure to your business.
